Rowing at Lowell’s
Frequently Asked Questions About Our Popular Program to Get on the Water
Who can sign up for rowing sessions at Lowell's Boat Shop?Everyone! Rowing is a Member Benefit at all levels of membership, free with this year’s discount code. Email Dorothy for that code if you’re a member and don’t have it. Nonmembers row for $20 per session. Memberships start at $45 per year.
How do I register for rowing sessions? Our Programs Director, Dorothy Antczak, posts new rowing sessions on this page. Generally, there will be weekly rows on Wednesdays and Sundays.
Don’t see a place to register on the rowing page? There aren’t any rowing sessions on the schedule right now.
We cannot accommodate drop-in rowers.
Email Dorothy after you’ve registered to give her your rowing time, your rowing partner’s name, and phone number for updates about weather.
What happens when there is bad weather?Dorothy will use the email address or phone number you provide when you sign up for your rowing session to get in touch if there are any changes due to weather.
What is special about Women on the Water?Women on the Water happens on Wednesdays from 6-8 p.m.; June 3–Sept 30 (weather and schedule permitting), with the same fee structure as Sunday rowing. One must register in time for the Wednesday of the week you hope to participate.
May I choose a particular boat or who my rowing partner is?Not a strong rower? YOU MUST have a rowing partner. Each person needs to register, and then let Dorothy know that you’re teaming up with an(other) registrant(s) in particular. Want to row the Surf Dory with a bigger team? We need three-days’ notice please.
You are welcome to wear your own Coast Guard-approved PFD; we have plenty of PFDs to borrow if you don't have your own.
Dress for the weather — you may wish to have sunglasses, a hat, water, and rowing gloves if you use them.
