AMESBURY — Lowell's Boat Shop is hosting its popular annual Mighty Merrimack Rowing Race on October 18, 2025 and invites rowers and spectators to enjoy the Fall Haul celebration following the race. It's one of the Museum's most anticipated events of the year—a spirited gathering on the banks of the Merrimack River with beautiful, traditional boats and plenty of fun.

There is no fee to spectate or enjoy the party, but there will be an opportunity to give a suggested donation to the museum, or to join as a Member. Rowers should register prior to the race, though it is possible to register on the day.

Racing classes will be determined based on entries; gigs and traditional rowing craft are strongly encouraged. Race entries are limited to human-powered rowing craft.

For the full schedule of the day, registration information, and more, please visit www.lowellsboatshop.org/events.

Lowell’s Boat Shop is located at 459 Main Street in Amesbury and was founded by Simeon Lowell in 1793. It is the oldest continuously operating wooden boatbuilding establishment in the United States, and the official birthplace of the fishing dory—the mainstay of New England’s legendary fishing industry. Visitors can explore the still-working, historic Shop, with its numerous antique tools, 1800s architecture, interpretive exhibits, and traditional skiffs and dories.
