2002-2003 Boatbuilding Classes at Lowell's

October 19 & 20, 2002

Kayak Paddle Workshop

Build your own Greenland Style Kayak paddle with instructors Keith Attenborough and John Raliegh, local kayak builders and enthusiasts. The workshop will run from 9am to 4pm Saturday and 9 am to noon on Sunday. Participants will build their own paddle, and should be able to complete it by the end of class on Sunday. Materials are included.

Class fee: $85.00

Oct. 26 - Dec. 14, 2002

Building A Merrimack Skiff

Learn to build the Merrimack Skiff with instructor John Marsh. Every Saturday for 8 weeks, from 9am to 4pm, the class will build one or two of these versatile row boats (depending on class size). Participants will learn all the necessary skills to build their own skiff using traditional Lowell's Boatshop methods, and will have a chance to win the class boats.

Class fee: $550.00

January 4, 2003

Lofting The Amesbury Skiff

Instructor Doug Scott will hold this workshop as a precurser to his "Building an Amesbury Skiff" class to start the following week. The workshop is included in the program cost for those taking the building course, but is open to anyone wishing to learn the lofting process. Lofting is not mandatory to build a boat the Lowell's way, but will enhance the understanding of the underlying principles of any construction.

Class fee: $40.00

Jan. 7- Feb. 27, 2003

Building An Amesbury Skiff

Instructor Doug Scott and his class will build a 14' Amesbury Skiff. The Amesbury Skiff is an easily driven, versatile power skiff that remains one of the best selling boats for the shop. Participants in the class will learn the skills necessary to build a skiff of their own, and will have a chance to win the class boat as well. The Class fee includes the "Lofting the Amesbury Skiff" workshop the preceeding weekend. Class participants are encouraged to attend, but it is not mandatory.

Class fee: $550.00

*All classes are subject to a cancellation date two weeks prior to the start of the class. If class mimimums have not been met, the class will be cancelled at that time and fees will be returned in full.
