Lowell Tenders

Lowell Tenders have been improved markedly in recent years.  We have deepened the hulls in such a way that even the 8'10" model can carry 4 adults and row exceptionally well.  The bottom and garboards are sealed with epoxy, thus allowing "dry sailing" from a float, ship's deck or trailer.  (At the same time reducing maintenance dramatically.)  Still, these boats are essentially as they have always been:  graceful, seaworthy, rugged dory-built boats.

Their four lapped planks per side on three sets of white oak frames give them a deep, graceful hull, excellent for rowing heavily laden as well as for towing.  They are stable, dry and seaworthy - ideal tenders.  We offer two models:  Deluxe have cedar planking, mahogany seats.  Standard models are built with pine planking and seats.  Both models come with varnished oak rails and mahogany transom.  A sailing version is also available in each length.  Custom variations of material, design and finish are available.

Tender specifications:

Length Overall Beam Overall Depth Midships Side Planking Bottom Planking Transom Seats Frames
8' 10" 50" 14-1/2" 1/2" 3/4" 7/8" 3/4" 3-oak
10' 51" 15" 1/2" 3/4" 7/8" 3/4" 3-oak
12' 52" 15-1/2" 1/2" 3/4" 7/8" 3/4" 3-oak

All models have a pair of bronze oarlocks and both fore and aft rowlock sockets.    Bottoms and garboards are sealed inside and out with epoxy, with a layer of 10 oz. fiberglass cloth on the outside for abrasion resistance.
