Lowell Sailboat

Comfortable and Versitile

The Lowell Sailboats are the only models from Lowell's Boat Shop which are designed with sailing performance to be the primary consideration. They are lapstrake dory type hulls of traditional design which have been modified to provide fast, able performance with safe sturdy construction. Oars are all that are needed as back-up when the wind dies, however the broad transom gives plenty of room for a small outboard if it is desired. A variety of sailing rigs are available depending of the boat size and the buyer's preference.

Standard models are now made with cedar planking, oak stem and frames, and mahogany transom, thwarts and details. Fastenings are copper rivets and silicon bronze ring nails and screws. Bottoms are encapsulated in West System epoxy with fiberglass cloth on the outside. Standard finish is quality marine enamel on the hull and interior, and varnish on rails, transom and thwarts. One pair of bronze oarlocks is included. Bronze bow eye, drain plug, brass half-oval rub strips, floor boards, boat cover and trailer are also available.

Standard features and finish can be customized which may either increase or lower the end cost. Unfinished boats are available at a substantially discounted price. Since all Lowell boats are handmade from patterns, dimensions are approximate. We reserve the right to alter our specifications when appropriate without prior notice.
